The Chinese Zodiac
Discover more about yourself according to ancient Chinese tradition
Every individual’s personality has a centered “self” and many layers around it. Each layer has a different size, texture and aura, and when combined, it makes up who the person truly is. The Chinese Zodiac or Chinese Horoscope uses details of your birth to determine your basic personality traits, strengths, weaknesses, your compatibility with other people and even to forecast your future.
Chinese Horoscopes may not have any religious basis. However, if it’s based on 5,000 years worth of human observation, similar trends can be found. It is the culmination of 5,000 years of observation by the ancient Chinese scholars to culminate into the analysis of each sign. Some are very accurate. Observation is the best way to gather information.
It is always interesting and entertaining to read about yourself, your good points and your horoscoped weaknesses. I guess knowing more about yourself will help you to work on what you need to work on. It is nice to know who you can work, partner, and be friends with… also who you would find some conflict with perhaps. Of course getting along and not getting along ultimately relies on you. But it is interesting to see who you have ‘natural’ conflicts with if no efforts were made towards the relationship. It is also interesting to share with friends personality traits of people you would like to understand more about. It is always nice to have a some lead in order to find a beginning in our relations with others.

Besides knowing about the characteristics of your Chinese Zodiac sign, what about when it comes to the people around you? Which other Chinese Zodiac sign best suit yours, when it comes to relationships?
Relationship compatibility within the Chinese Zodiac mostly takes into account the general characteristics for each animal. However, every individual will place their own unique twist on the basic characteristics. That being said, it’s always fun to read about how well (or not well) you match with your partner
Here is a tool for you to test your compatibility with your partner by entering both your Chinese Zodiac sign and your partner’s sign. Have fun reading, and try it out with all your friends!

The Chinese Lunar horoscope is different from the Western zodiac. The year you are born in isn’t the only thing taken into consideration, but also the month you were born, the time of your birth and your Western zodiac sign.
It is always interesting and entertaining to read about yourself, your good points and your horoscoped weaknesses. I thought this section on horoscopes would keep you coming back for further contemplations and it’s always interesting to find out more about others. Horoscopes should not be used as a weapon or be fixed. Whatever personalities are described of each sign has many mitigating factors and everything can be changed or overridden with patience, kindness, understanding and good old fashioned sincerity for others. Do not think whatever a horoscope says is fixed or permanent. It is a general guide to start from somewhere but don’t be stuck where it is… nothing is stagnant. For example Snakes do not get along with Boars according to the horoscopes… But they can get along if they work at it. Horoscopes help you find ahead of time what we need to be aware of with other I guess.
Do take a look below to see which animal sign you are… It will lead to interesting discussions, ideas, and introspection’s. Have fun and enjoy. I put it here for my blog friends to enjoy… so please enjoy and share with others!!!

Fuck you for this astrology some thing I don’t like is how some years the after year zodiac appear though days months 1 to 9 or 5 to 9 which that not astrology works or horoscope too and also why some Chinese zodiac lunar years are put the year after that they were born not before like when I look other websites about lunar calendar horoscope ps this needs to be fixed I am rooster rooster years are feb 9 2005 – Jan 29 2006 and don’t mix anything up by day of month on the wonky calculator that you have so change it maybe once a day instead of doing in after Chinese zodiac if you’re going make horoscope try make flow with lunar dates with signs before
Fuck you for this astrology It’s just inaccurate with how you start on 1 to 9 of month who ever did this needs to fix it

The importance of the zodiac to the Chinese culture is that the animal signs have been used in stories and folklore. These developed the different personality traits that were represented by each animal.
Learning more about astrology and the zodiac signs helps us to understand people and their action. It’s always interesting to find ahead of time what we need to be aware of with our surroundings.
Thanks for the interesting sharing, the zodiac provides guidance on how people live their lives.

Hello la, can anyone tell me how and where I can find the best colors for a specific zodiac sign?
blue or green looks good on cancer or snake
The Chinese zodiac is an important factor to the Chinese culture where each year is represented by one of twelve animals. In the following order where Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and comes the Pig. The signs have been used for a very long time as a way of dating years in a 12-year cycle of the Chinese calendar. The importance of the zodiac to the Chinese culture is that the animal signs have been used in stories and folklore. This calendar can be traced back to the 14th century B.C. A zodiac system has existed in Chinese culture for more than 2,000 years ago. Recording to myths the first Chinese emperor, in 2637 B.C. invented the Chinese lunar calendar. In Chinese culture, the zodiac can be used to determine our fortune for the year. Over time the zodiacs became more and more integrated into everyday life, with different meanings and characteristics assigned to each animal. Interesting article where we could learn and understand of ourselves , just by clicking those button as mentioned in the blog. There’s many information from understanding of each zodiac such as a personality, fortune, compatibility, even to forecast your future and so forth. That’s wonderful at least we could somehow know where we stand and improve our weakness point.
Thank you Rinpoche and writer team for this interesting article.
It is really helpful to understand something deep about ourself which we can feel ,but can’t get word to explain it…..
Ancient Chinese had always relied on astrology for the success of their activities. Even now, many Chinese still seek answers in astrology that sometimes it becomes overboard. No matter what the results may be, we still need to put in the effort to make it successful as nothing will come out of nothing. Thank you for this interesting post that can serve as guidance.
It’s always worth spending more time and effort to know yourself better: your strength and weakness, so to live up a better version of you. As many saying the worst enemy is always you yourself, you can’t get anywhere in life, because you keep getting in your own way. All of the troubles you are encountering arise from your own actions. Before conquer the external world, you have to master the inner world of your mind… Thank you Rinpoche and writer team for this article.
It is very interesting by just entering our birth information and it will calculate our Chinese sign, elements, protectors and etc. This Chinese Horoscopes may not have any religious basis. Anyone can try for it and look for the best solution to improve / change ourselves for better future.
We were very familiar with the Chinese Zodiac horoscope from young because the adults would always mention the zodiac sign of the year especially as Chinese New Year approached. It seemed, to me, the zodiac sign of the year, when collaborated with the zodiac sign of individuals, would produced different effect through out the year. It was very fascinating because it foretold surprises, as well as good and bad fortunes.
As I grew older, I realised that the Zodiac Horoscope is a combination of science, maths and human observation. By learning more about personality of each sign based on the birth year, month, day and hour, we get a glimpse of the unique characteristic of a person, perhaps someone whom we can get to know better and work closely with.
Thank you, Rinpoche and team for this fancy calculator for us to plot our Chinese Zodiac Horoscope sign with matching western horoscope as a side reference. It is interesting information.
Hi rinpoche
So far till now my life is not well settled so i just wonder about my future.
I have one question, I want to know my rising singn. I was born in 5 october 1970 in porto Portugal at 10:45 am. Tanks very much.
Hi João, your rising sign is that of the Snake.
Hi Pastora Elena, thans very much, but snake isn`t a dangerous singn?
Nothing is set in stone. Even though I was very fascinated with the zodiac and let it dictate my life and felt that it was unavoidable, I now know that nothing is permanent. As the saying goes, this too shall pass. We can purify any negative karma if we work at it and do our purification practices. So, we can read the zodiac but know that the future is in our hands. We just have to know what to do. That’s where the Guru or teacher comes in. We have to have faith and confidence in the real guru after we have checked out the Guru and work at the practices that were clearly given to us.
My name is tenzin and i was born sheep year 1991june 29 i m going marry with kunsang she is dog 1994 so this is not good but i love her so is there any solution for me if we do pray and puja it can be help what shuld we do for to make batter our relitionship ?
This article is interesting to read and understand of our characteristic and others. It’s so details about the Chinese horoscope and Western horoscope.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing the interesting article.

This is a very interesting article on Chinese and Western horoscope. Everyone has different character and behaviour. Hence, it is for us to learn and understand each other.
No matter what our characteristic is we must always strive and transform to be better.
Dear Rinpoche,
Blessed Guru Rinpoche Day.
What are the start and end dates for Monkey month this year?
Peace, Peter
Dear Mr. Warren,
Welcome to Rinpoche’s blog and thank you for your question.
The start and end date for this Monkey Year is February 8th 2016 to January 27th 2017.
Thank you,
P. Adeline
The monkey month is starting from August 7th to September 6th. And if you are interested, the monkey day falls on August 18th and 30th. Thank you 😀
Its fantastic how horoscopes can teach people to be better, kinder, less angry, more patient etc…. what a great tool to impart good human values on others.. Thank you rinpoche amazing how correct it is..
Horoscopes have a big influence on our life as it determine certain traits of character that influence our actions – and hence our results as well. I think everyone kind of knows this. However, what I learn from Rinpoche is that although our traits have taken some form, we can still change our fate and destiny by conscious choices and consistent effort.
So, it is good to know our stars but knowledge should not stop there but expand to learning how to work our stars to create the most beneficial results
…
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this great piece of article related to the Chinese Zodias and also partly collaborate with Western Horoscope. It is well written, comprehensive yet detailed.
Chinese astrology is a great topic to research if on an extended visit to China. You will have great fun and perhaps get sufficient insight to get you thinking about your life and goals.
If it’s got 5000 years of wisdom behind it, it’s something to think abut. From the Zodiac table , you can at least make calculated guesses on how to get round a business partner or how to work to a certain extent to effect a smoother more successful relationship with the partner of your choice.
If you have dharma as well, then it helps you to see when these calculated guesses and moves do not turn out according to your expectations. To see and to accept.
Thank you Rinpoche.
Thanks in favor of sharing such a pleasant thinking, paragraph
is good, thats why i have read it entirely

Its a interesting to know.We can get to know ourselves more with these guides an its also fun to play with.Really enjoyed it!
Thanks dear Rinpoche.Beside that, thank you the E-division team for sharing and your hardworked.
Thank you for the team ‘s effort to sorting out the combination. i use to love to read some information on chinese Zodiac. here even tell us our protector . quite interesting !
Can someone please help me determine which Chinese zodiac animal hour I was born in?
I was born at 7:30pm Central Time on the 29th of July. I have been told that I was born in the Dog hour, but I have also been told I was born in the Rooster hour. I’m not sure which is correct.
I think that a Buddha probably transcends all kinds of zodiac signs and is not limited by the limitations of each animal. Still 5000 years of observations there is some truths to , may not be absolute but there are many parallels that makes sense to the ordinary person.
I wanna know compatibility with my lover by combining both the chinese and western zodiac signs together. I am a leo sheep and he is libra rabbit.
I know leo and libra is good.
Sheep and rabbit is also good.
But I wanna know the combined one. Can you please help me

wow this is so interesting and cool, i was very surprised that most of it is true and it is very very true about my lifestyle. i am a snake and i am proud of being me because it is good to be yourself and who says you have to be perfect, just be yourself.
This part of the blog is only available because of the hard work of H.E. Tsem Rinpoche and the E-Division Team. It is extremely fun to see how the Zodiac influences my personality. Although some of the points are inaccurate (Probably because I, myself, am quite an irregular person), most of the points are quite true to me.
There is so much hard work at play here and I must congratulate those involved as those involved in the creation of this section has created the causes to satisfy people’s thirst for information and superstition. I rejoice! A lot of merit is gained by this action.

Wow, this is amazing! I can’t believe that it really works. It showed me a few exact personality of mine. I wonder how does the Chinese learn all these correct facts about horoscope in the ancient times and why did they choose these 12 particular animals?

I’m a Tiger and according to the chinese Horoscope:
“Tiger is the animal that represents authority. They are proud and will exert their leadership as they are born leaders. Forceful and aggressive, they are usually in the lead and it is difficult to deny them their rights. ”
This is so true! I am very aggressive. hehe. The whole page is so fun to play with. I can find out more about other chinese horoscopes with just a few clicks!
Thank you E-Div team!! 🙂
Thank you, Rinpoche!
I had a lot of fun playing with the compabaility calculator! I entered my friends and family’s zodiac signs to learn more about them and myself. hehe. The element section is veyr interesting too. Never knew that we know more about someone through the element signs. hehe
A big Thank you to the e-div team who made this page so fun and interactive!
And thank you Rinpoche! 🙂
wow. this is so interesting. after reading it, i find it very true about some basic personality.
please advice me more abpout my self..it’s all true what i am like while going through this…..
Excellent, very insight information regarding Chinese Zodiac. And interesting to know about an “Earth Scorpion Dog”. One would realized the weaknesses “consciously” and do something to improved the quality of our life.
Thanks a millions for the effort.
nice web 4 our chinese people…:D
thanks rinpoche la…..
it s nice.
This is a very interesting site. I used to read the short horoscope daily from newspaper. Now, this is another way for me to read my horoscope online! Yes!
Rinpoche has indicated that though chinese horoscopes may not have any religious basis, but it is based on 5,000 years worth of human observation by ancient chinese scholars. The culmination into the analysis of eachsign for some can be very accurate, but Rinpoche did caution that the result of such prediction should not be taken as ‘fixed’ or permanent, as nothing is permanent. Each personality sign has mitigating factors and everything can be overriden with patience, kindness, understanding and good old fashion sincerity for others. Nevertheless, just take it with a pinch of salt for fun and easy reading and enjoy it as entertainment.
This particular page on Chinese Zodiac definitely has improved signficantly as compared to my last visit. Now this page is very user friendly and whatever information that we need pertain to the Chinese Zodiac is just within a click of a button on the main page itself, be it the relationship 2 different chinese zodiac, or the relationship between the Chinese and Western Zodiac on the month that we were born.
Many thanks to the efforts from E-Division that make Chinese Zodiac fun to learn :D.
This is a very comprehensive writeup. Thank you to all involved in this effort. You must have done alot of research to be able to come up with all these information. Even navigation is easy.
Very often i refer back to this blog post after meeting someone new. It is akin to looking at the shape of the spout of a teapot and you will know how best to pour the tea without spilling it. When you know of a person’s strength and weaknesses, you will know how best to harness their strength while helping them improve their weaknesses.
Having said that, these facts are basic characteristics of people in general. Their personality and perspective changes after they receive dharma knowledge. So I would use these information wisely and not blindly.
What I like most about this horoscope is: it gives us a general idea about our natural tendencies but it also proposes efforts we can consciously make to overcome the “weakness” we may possess. This is very typical of Tsem Rinpoche where I learn that we have the power to make a change.
I remember that Karma Chart that Tsem Rinpoche created where Rinpoche showed us that the choices we make and the action we take can cause a change to our so called destiny. For example, we can engage in purification acts like consistent daily sadhana, puja etc. to purify our negative karma (black karma). This approach to viewing karma is very empowering because we do not just say: oh, it is my karma to be lazy…it is my karma to be a failure etc. If we view karma the way Tsem Rinpoche has taught us, we can say: yes, I must have very strong imprints of laziness due to habituation from past lives. However, if I practice moral discipline and develop the new habit of being hardworking, I can collect the merits to purify my negative karma and cause the creation of positive karma.
Thank you Rinpoche for always giving us the opportunity to learn and be better.
Rinpoche’s blog has so many interesting reads. So many information are available just on this post. In the past I have read the characteristics of animal signs and find them fascinating. This post provides me with more information and knowledge.
This is super fun and very accurate!!! Thanks To Ediv for creating this fantastic post 🙂
I am a Sheep “Mekkk mekkkk”.

Thank you Rinpoche for sharing.

Interesting Chinese zodiac sign to discover & learn! Every year before or during CNY, especially among Chinese would love to get their fate predicted reading their Chinese zodiac sign. Thank you E-division team for all the handwork on research and write up. I enjoy it a lot.
i share this site with my friend and we are fascinated with what it say and could not stop to try on the birthday of people whom we know..
Thank you for sharing the chinese Zodiac which we can learn and use it to improve our weak points.
This is such an awesome section in the blog because like it or not, we love to read about our characters and other people’s. This is not superstitions…it is ancient science which has been around for ages and practised in many cultures. It is a guideline for us to gauge and learn about ourselves and others so we can get along better or better yet induced with Dharma… to help the other person better. Perhaps if we know that particular person’s qualms and quirks… we can better serve/benefit them 😉
The blog team worked really really hard in researching and writing and creating this whole section up!!! Thank you selfless ppl. And thank you Rinpoche!
Knowing the characteristic our Zodiac sign and others not just about knowing it for personal advice but it’s also to understand others and how we can get and work together to achieve harmony.
Thanks Rinpoche for this great sharing.
Thank you for this simple and easy “just click” app. Now I can be a fake feng shui/ astrologer and dispense zodiac advice. Hehehe (kidding!)
The Chinese Zodiac (生肖), is a system that relates each year to an animal and its reputed attributes, according to a 12-year mathematical cycle and is popular in several East Asian countries such as China, Korea and Japan.
I love reading Chinese Zodiac out of curiosity and fun. Sometimes I find it accurate, sometimes not so. I find this information pretty accurate and take note of my weaknesses I have to work on. Thanks to the wonderful e-team for putting so much of hard work into this.

hi guys
thanks for all this astrology information. this is a great site where you can get a free reading of where all the planets were at the time of your birth http://www.astro.com. Its really interesting.
Thuchee chee lus for your information,i dint know anything about this and i am still confused,i was told by my family that i am a Dog and now its coming as Gemini Pig…hahahhahahaha…it was nice though….hope to share more information for you to the world for you and i would obliged to do that for you.Peace
Hi, great job people. Be a good guideline for me. By the way, how can i lean more?
Thank you so very much for this.
Its fantastic how horoscopes can teach people to be better, kinder, less angry, more patient etc…. what a great tool to impart good human values on others!
The writers really worked super hard on this – researching, comparing notes, writing etc… without the content, would be nothing to talk about! They did it uncomplainingly, lead by Jean Mei, who worked overtime to pull the content together. The only thing we could not write original content for is the Daily Horoscopes… I do hope someday that there will be an astrologer among us who is able to do this pro bono!
The e-division has been working tirelessly for this new function to come out. and they did it!!! Great work guys!
Now, i can spend hours reading up on myself and friends… hehe.. Thankyou guys for the hardwork.
Thank you, our eDiv folks.. it is a very interesting calculator, finding out the characteristic by our birth date..
I checked out mine and found it very accurate. Now I know where my weaknesses are and will work hard to rectify them.
Thank you to Rinpoche and the hardworking blog them!!!
Thank you very much to all those that did the blog on Zodiacs…It’s very interesting to learn so much on Rinpoche’s blog! Every blog is FUNTASTIC!
I love this section! It’s very informative and by reading other horoscopes, i get to know more about the people around me, the guidelines can help me on how to effectively work and communicate with my colleagues and friends. Thank you E-div and blog team for your hard work posting this up for us

This section is so much fun, interesting and so very well done!!
Biggest Thanks to all of you who worked on it!! You guys rock!! 😀
The horoscope reading is amazingly accurate. Fun! Been reading on my friends’ horoscope. Great guidelines to learn how to communicate effectively with my friends.
Effective communication is important because many problems are created from miscommunication. It’s part of practising dharma to put in the effort to understand another person.
Wow very cool. Astrology communities will love this and maybe get some dharma.
Freaking cool, now whenever I meet someone I can come to the blog to profile them top to toe East to West quite literally.
FB profiles, here we come, birth dates and western zodiacs, make for some interesting combinations in love and war… well less war huh!
The E Division team , beng kooi, lew, cynthia, justin, jean ai, jean mei and wai meng have been working very hard on this new function. Especially Lew, Cynthia & Beng Kooi. I have been looking forward to this for weeks. It is going to be fun to see the compatibility of my birth signs with the rest and vice versa. Enjoy!!!
Wow!!! Already share with my Facebook friends…..thanks for the hard working team:-)take care guys:-)))))))
It’s a very useful information gathered for this particular blog, am sure many of us will definitely benefit from it. Thanks to you guys in E division team cheers 😀
